A note from Heidi…

When I started Career Path Writing Solutions in 2013, I did it from a place of pragmatic realism: My time working at Duke University’s Writing Studio was a foundational experience that caused me to realize my life purpose is to help others succeed through their communications. I learned I loved helping others. This was scary! I trained for so long to become a history professor only to choose instead a path that felt much more unknown than the life of the professor I had envisioned.

Since that time, my little consulting practice has grown beyond my wildest dreams. I’ve been incredibly privileged to play a small part in helping thousands of people communicate when it matters most and execute their mission in life. My role in this world is as a helper, and I’m honored to support organizations that are doing the good and hard work of being helpers, too.

Career Path Writing Solutions is a proud supporter of …

Women in Bio is a national organization dedicated to supporting women’s career advancement in the life sciences. The local chapter, Women in Bio – RTP is nothing short of amazing. The dedicated team of volunteer leaders are always developing new and exciting programming, and the organization offers mentorship from the classroom to the boardroom. Career Path Writing Solutions remains a proud sponsor of WIB – RTP and workshop facilitator.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the world’s leader in searching for a cure for cystic fibrosis and extensively supports research. My husband and I took the plunge in 2025 to take on the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s “Xtreme Hike.” For this Hike for a Cure, we committed to raising at least $6,000 and hiking 30.1 miles in one day with other fundraisers. If you’re reading this and supported our hike, thank you! Our next activity will be to volunteer with our children for the next Xtreme Hike in 2026 before taking on another fundraising challenge.

Me Fine Foundation’s mission is to help relieve the crises surrounding the crisis. When a child is facing a serious health issue, Me Fine Foundation offers financial support. There are many ways to support Me Fine, whether that is as a sponsor, a monthly donor to Folden’s Hero’s, an event participant, or a bidder at their silent auction at their annual Gala. Beginning in February 2026, I began serving on the Me Fine Board of Directors. Learn more about and support their annual Golf Challenge and Gala!

The Durham Rescue Mission has been serving local men, women, and children in need since 1974. This is an excellent organization to donate goods to, volunteer your time, and financially support. Career Path Writing Solutions is no longer headquartered in Durham but remains a committed supporter.

Hope Renovations prepares women and gender expansive folks for construction careers and helps older adults age in place. This small but growing organization has gained national attention. Like Me Fine Foundation, there are ample opportunities to sponsor and otherwise support its mission. CPWS is a sponsor, and I also advise on their career curriculum for their trainees.

Career Path Writing Solutions is pleased to support organizations that honor and support veterans and their families like Wreaths Across America and the Travis Manion Foundation through financial support and active engagement in local activities honoring those who gave everything. Wreaths Across America strives to ensure veterans are not forgotten. Annually, CPWS supports the local initiative to lay wreaths at Raleigh National Cemetery. The Travis Manion Foundation, with the motto of “If not me, then who,” leads initiatives to end veteran suicide, support Gold Star families, and honor the heroes of 9/11 and the service members involved in the wars after 9/11.

Duke University Graduate School changed my life by taking a chance on a student who wrote in her personal statement that she did not want to have to wear earplugs and a hairnet at work for the rest of her working life. I will forever be grateful they took that chance on me and for the transformative experience I had at Duke. Go Duke!
